Shakmat Modular Four Bricks Rook

The Four Bricks Rook module from Shakmat is a novel entry into the world of Eurorack sequencing. The module boasts a direct design that immediately makes its intentions clear via the four push style buttons present on its front panel. The Four Bricks Rook relies on a schema of "playing it in" as opposed to the classical XOX style of sequencing. This gives the unit a level of playability unmatched in many Eurorack sequencers.

The module also features a quantization function, a muting section, and a shift knob to create push and pull for your rhythms. One of the most exciting features of the module is the length knob, which unlocks the ability to change the length of the master sequence on the fly. This is a great way to add performance and improvisational elements to your sequence.

The Four Bricks Rook Module also includes four gate outputs for each channel of the sequencer, as well as CV-controllable table, shift, and length inputs. The confluence of all these functions serves to create a rhythmic powerhouse, in a compact format that is perfect for anyone looking to add a bit of grid to their compositions!

Shakmat Four Bricks Rook Sequencer With Future Retro Transient Plus
Shakmat Modular's Four Bricks Rook is a fast to program sequencer for up to four drums with interesting editing options. In this video we used it to sequence Future Retro's Transient Plus which is a powerful drum synthesizer module with built in presets and randomization. The Transient Plus has analog modulation and synthesis algorithms even though it is a digital module.

The other drums used were the Befaco Kickall, WMD Crucible and Tiptop SD 808 snare. We used the Future Retro Trax sequencer to program the Erica Synths Bassline synth module. Effects and mixing are done with Erica Synths modules and the Noise Engineering Kith Ruina is dirtying up the snare drum.
