Compact Footprint
From small studios to large churches, there never seems to be enough floor space to accommodate every stand you need. Since the beginning, Triad-Orbit has approached this problem head on. Their revolutionary weighted tripod bases provide the low center of gravity of a traditional weighted-base stand, along with the stability of a tripod. What's more, a unique multi-position ratcheting system lets you tilt and adjust the angle of the tripod legs individually, allowing you to place stands close together and angle them to accommodate extremely tight spaces, such as closely packed drum kits.
Modular Flexibility
What started as a unique solution for instantly swapping out mic clips, Triad-Orbit's IO Quick-Change Couplers soon evolved into an amazing line of extraordinary modular components. Today, there are around a dozen IO-Heads available, from the simple 5/8-inch mic clip adapters to entire booms and specialty mounts. When you’re pressed for time and need to set up quickly or tear down in minutes, you’ll really appreciate how cool this modular system is. And since you can swap around components any way you like, you can use the same bases and attachments in all kinds of different ways, allowing you to adapt to any project and performance needs.
Multidisciplinary Approach
While Triad-Orbit’s roots will always be in the music industry, the popularity of their stands has allowed them to expand their products into many other aspects of media production. Suddenly, the same microphone stand you used on the sound stage can transform into a heavy-duty camera stand. What about lighting gear? No problem! Connect a Orbit dual boom and you can even hold a pair of lights, thanks to the heavy-weight base. And that camera stand or lighting stand can instantly become a holder for your VESA-mount display, iPad, laptop, or whatever else the job calls for. Talk about innovative!
No More Stands
Ironically, for a company that’s famous for its unparalleled stand designs, Triad-Orbit makes it easy to ditch your stands entirely. They offer a number of innovative alternative mounting solutions that tackle tricky miking situations and help to streamline work environments. For example, their IO-C Clamp IO Quick-Change base lets you stick a microphone or any IO-Head mount to a variety of objects, from pipes to piano lids, making it easy to reach places other stands can’t. Similarly, ceiling, wall, and desktop mounts can eliminate a ton of clutter that can crowd your workspace.
Spotlight on the Starbird
In 1939, George Starbird's Los Angeles-based Meletron Corporation produced the original Model 180 studio boom. This massive, crane-like stand became an instant fixture in the large broadcast and recording studios that sprung up all throughout the 1940s. Its reach, range of motion, and stability were second to none. While the basic design of the Model 180 has been copied countless times, none rival the original, even after it disappeared in the ’70s. Manley Labs brought it back in the ’90s and released an updated version, until 2010. Now in its third generation, the Triad-Orbit Starbird merges classic Model 180 design elements with patented T-O innovation to deliver a studio boom like no other. With enhanced stability, limitless positioning possibilities, and redesigned boom swivel and clutch elements, the Starbird is pure studio boom perfection.
