Analogue Solutions Ample

Ample draws from the rich catalog of Analogue Solutions synthesizers, combining several different elements of sound and control into a unique modular synthesis package that's greater than the sum of its parts. Abstracting away everything beyond the sound components, Ample shares numerous similarities to the Fusebox—but as any instrument designer will tell you, because Analogue Solutions has recontextualized those circuits among elements from their other instruments, you're not likely to stumble upon the same sorts of sounds. Classic subtractive synthesis sounds abound in Ample: three analog VCOs, a thick 24dB/octave lowpass filter, and VCA, and are all subject to numerous sources of shaping and sequencing. There's even a delay borrowed from their legacy Dr Strangelove effects box.

Many instruments in the Analogue Solutions catalog draw influence from the pin matrix approach of vintage EMS synthesizers, while others lean on 3.5mm jacks contemporary to Eurorack modular instruments. Amazingly, Ample features both—letting you easily craft patches within its own universe and among others. Use the included 2.5mm pins to reroute audio and control voltage signals to Ample's various elements—there are even two external jacks that allow you to inject or pull signals from the matrix to 3.5mm connections. Speaking of 3.5mm, several useful inputs and outputs are available on patch point jacks—bridge these into the matrix or interact with external modular synths.

Patching is only one part of interacting with a synthesizer, and Ample provides a couple of additional fun bits to play around with. From their Generator instrument, Ample incorporates CV touch pads and the Patternator sequencer. With these, you can easily create manually played melodies, stored voltages, classic-style step sequences, or a variety of stepped and manual modulations for other parameters. And for modern studios, the only digital component of Ample is its MIDI-CV converter, bridging MIDI and DAW workflows with raw analog synthesis. For anyone looking to add classic modular synthesis sensibilities to their otherwise current collection of hardware, the Analogue Solutions Ample is an instrument for the discerning analog enthusiast.
