A Versatile Kick Mic with Classic/Modern Voicing

Designed for use with kick drums, floor toms, tympani, or other large drums where low-frequency energy is critical and SPLs are high, the sE Electronics V Kick is the most compact and versatile bass drum microphone in its class. The V Kick's integrated swivel joint allows flexibility of placement, and its purpose-built capsule delivers a sonic character specifically tailored for bass drums. Further shaping of the sound is facilitated by two switches on the rear the microphone. Sweetwater's advice: From Classic punch to Modern edge, the sE Electronics V KICK delivers the kick drum sound you're going for, in any music genre.

Yup!!

Very sweet, play a brand of originals of metal heavy blues. And this mic is amazing. I drop the adjustments both down to modern settings and sounded awesome through the house/mixer PA system. Then I have a personal drum module and Yamaha mixer. The kit is fully triggered (Roland rt30's) and completely mic'd. Run sends in stereo from my mixer out to pair of Alesis 12" drum amps.
Music background: Playing since I was 8 yo old. Currently in band called BlackFly. Been together about 8 years. We have large private studio for rehearsals recording. Play a heavy blues style metal.

Great Kick Mic Concept

This mic is perfect for working with a wide range of kits and styles. The "classic" and "modern" tuning switches have a significant impact on the overall sound, allowing for quick experimentation without having to switch out mics.

Build quality is really solid. Not quite as heavy as a D6, but definitely road worthy.

I’m impressed

I have been using an Audix kick mic for years. I ordered a new kick drum and decided to go with the Kelly shu and a new designated mic (SE V KICK) for the drum. Evens Emad heads on a DW kick, both switches set to modern and this drum sounds AMAZING! Easiest kick I have ever dial in (it sounds great without trying). Exactly the sound I was after! I would have gone with a more traditional mic (Audix or Shure) but took the recommendation from Mac at Sweetwater and after hearing and playing through it I am ver impressed! Thank you Sweetwater!!!
Music background: Gig every weekend and have a studio.

In a 20 kick, this did the trick.

The setup is with a Yamaha Stage Custom 20 inch kick, Kelly Shu, and sE V Kick, Evan's EMAD Batter and Resonator heads.
I gave the sE V Kick 5 stars because of the thought put into the design of this mic. The switched DO make a difference and my sound tech was excited at how well they worked. We went with "modern" setting.
The mic, in my opinion and experience using various manufactures like Sure Beta 52 a, D112, and other, this one beat them all. Nice lows and highs accented the beater with a nice click. Sound tech said it was the easiest mic he had ever mixed with in quite some time.
Without going any further, I'm thinking on purchasing the tom mics by sE as well.
My compliments to Frank Gerts for suggesting the sE V Kick and getting it to me in plenty of time for my next show.

the best yet!

I have tried a whole mess of microphones as my kick inside mic and this has now become my all time favorite. My second favorite is the new ev nd68. I like a good classic inside microphone sound with nice attack and natural low end. Im not a fan of the overly clicky, pre eq'd microphones like the d6. This has the absolute most perfect inside tone I have heard yet and I have tried at least 20 different inside microphones over the years. This microphone with the warm audio fet47 jr on the outside is absolute studio gold! I tried the different switch combinations on this v kick microphone and although they are useful, the classic/classic setting was absolutely perfect. I really think this was my last microphone purchase for that kick inside mic. This along with the ev nd68, which is also beautiful sounding and a touch more bassy, has me covered in the studio. Definitely give this one a try if you are looking for a beautifully built, stellar sounding kick drum microphone.
